Moving through our organizational chart, it made the most sense logistically to highlight our next most seasoned employee. Elizabeth Herrera, affectionately known as “Ellie” throughout our offices, is the glue that keeps the Salinas Headquarters functioning smoothly. As the Director of Operations, Ellie supervises our Administrative Assistant, Program Coordinators, Enrollment Clerks, and Site Liaisons. Flexibility and attention to detail are primary qualities necessary to ensure the productivity of our Salinas staff. Let’s take a moment to get to know this dedicated staff member and what she has accomplished over the years.
How long have you worked for JIM Enterprises and what offices have you worked alongside over the years?
I started with JIM Enterprises in 2014. Within the 10 years employed with the company, I have worked in the Fresno office, then transferred to the Watsonville office and now located in Salinas.
What are some key takeaways from each location?
When I was hired to work at the Fresno office, I had very little office experience. I was grateful for the opportunity and gained a lot of experience which made me feel more comfortable in this type of work setting. The time I spent working in the Watsonville office was very special to me. My colleagues were great, and I learned a lot from them and myself which allowed me to continue growing into a larger role with the company. Now, located in the Salinas office I continue to work with amazing people but overall, the biggest takeaway is being able to serve our community of students and parents.
Currently as the Director of Operations for the Salinas office, what is the highlight of the geographical area? What would you recommend to a visitor?
Monterey County has many highlights and has something to offer all visitors. Some of my suggestions would be 17-mile drive, Point Lobos, Monterey Bay Aquarium, whale watching and Big Sur. My favorite place by far would be Big Sur due to the amazing views and scenery. This is a place where you can drive without a destination, and you will never be disappointed.
How has your role with JIM Enterprises evolved as the business has evolved and grown?
I have had many different roles with JIM Enterprises. I started as Site Liaison in the Fresno area in 2014, and I am now the Director of Operations. Throughout the years I have seen this company shrink and grow. It is amazing to see how much things have changed since I first started with the company to what it has now become.
What is the biggest change you’ve observed?
Looking back, I would say the biggest changes have been the new procedures and curriculum developed. I never would have imagined this is where the company would be if you had asked me to envision it 10 years ago.
Working alongside both the student program and the parent program, what are some of the benefits you see having districts offer both?
I would say that one of the biggest benefits from districts offering both programs is that when parents feel supported and provided with additional resources by their district, they are better equipped to support their child’s education. They will also make better decisions for their child’s future.
How do you fill your cup so that you’re able to properly fill the cups of others?
I love the outdoors. I try to surround myself with nature as much as possible. With the time change and work schedule this has become a challenge, but even getting out to water my plants allows me to mentally unwind and reenergize.
Thank you, Ellie, for the insight into your time with JIM Enterprises. We appreciate you not only for your dedication to the mission and vision of the organization, but for your positive attitude no matter what the circumstances.
